South Mountain Distilling Co.

I’ll start off by saying that when we arrived to Connelly Springs, it was a Sunday and we quickly learned that North Carolina doesn’t sell alcohol on Sundays?! So while we were eating a burger in town, we were searching reddit of all places to find how we could purchase a bottle of something to take back to our cabin with us. I mean, who gets an airbnb in the mountains for three days but doesn’t even bring a bottle of wine?! We do. Because we were ill prepared. But nonetheless! We did find one gem down the road where we could buy a bottle of whiskey. And that place happened to be South Mountain Distilling Co. We didn’t realize it at the time, but this was J.B. Raders spot who was on the show ‘Moonshiners’ – also didn’t realize that he was in fact, inside the store, and we ended up chatting with him for an hour while tasting moonshine. Needless to say, we walked out of there with four bottles.

Newland, North Carolina

Being in Florida, I sure do miss the mountains. And I definitely wanted to ensure that Boonie had some early access to them. A week prior, we had driven north from Fort Lauderdale to stay with my mom in North Carolina. I was filming a wedding in Winston-Salem, and we thought it was the perfect time to keep driving a bit further west and into Newland, which is midway between Asheville and Boone.

We definitely want to come back here during the warmer months and check out some of the surrounding hiking areas! Highly recommend for anyone with pups!

A quick trip to Boone

Fun fact: I had never actually been to Boone but always wanted to go and had this weird understanding that I would fall madly in love with it. I’ve watched countless YouTube videos on Boone from all sorts of channels I follow varrying in fly fishing, hiking, camping, and just in general enjoying the outdoors in the area. I’ve wanted to go for SO long and funny enough, the town of Boone was the whole reason behind naming Boonie!

It seemed only fitting that we go check it out. We had no idea what to expect as this was not too long after Helene had devestated this area. One thing I will say, it was extremely awesome to see the outpouring love and support from within the community. Everyone here were super welcoming, and we had no trouble at all finding dog friendly spots to hang out.

We grabbed a couple beers and a bite at The Boone Saloon (hehe) and wandered around town picking up a few trinkets before heading back to the cabin.
